2020 Summer Trip

We suggested a number of ideas for summer 2020 at the start of term and asked for your views and from those who have replied we have 2 trips proceeding, both a week long. It will be possible to make a 2 week trip by doing both!

Please note all dates are approximate at this stage and may vary by a few days when we get into detailed planning.

WEEK 1 - 25th July to 2nd August

Wild Country backpacking trip - probably a 4 day actual backpack trip, with several days getting to / from - options include the coast track to Cape Wrath (far NW Scotland), the Affric Kintail way (West Coast) or something across the Cairngorm mountains. Whilst open to all, some previous hill walking & backpacking experience is needed by attendees as we will be travelling across wild country a significant distance away from the nearest road - we can arrange a practice weekend if needed for those with insufficient experience.

We now have a full walking group for week 1 - if we are to take more will need another 4 people to want to attend

WEEK 2 - 1st August to 9th August

Exploration style trip to Orkney - probably 4-5 days on the island, with some hill walking, cycling, examination of the pre-historic ruins, war relics and wildlife. likely to be a mix of lightweight camping & scout hut floors by way of accommodation!

18th to 20th Sept - Water Activities in Norfolk

QM's Equipment Repair Sessions

Running throughout the year these sessions allow us to ensure we have maintained equipment for use on our camps and activities. They give an opportunity for Scouts to learn new skills and, with prior arrangement, can be used towards DofE awards.

Forthcoming dates:

Saturday 16th May 1pm to 4pm

To find out what you've missed, you can catch up with the Stores Blog. Also see the equipment list.

Broadstone Warren Service Team (Broadstone Explorers)

We're proud to have supported the maintenance of Broadstone Warren Scout Camp since the 1930s. For those with the time Broadstone Explorers meets on approximately a monthly basis and has it's own programme of activities you can get involved in.

For those wanting to help on an occasional basis, or perhaps use for the DofE Service section etc., we offer a number of weekends where you can attend as Dulwich Explorers.

Forthcoming dates:

The following dates are probably best suited to those who've been before and know the ropes - there is no transport available from Dulwich, although a lift from East Grinstead station should be. E-mail the Broadstone Service Team Leader Tim Birse directly if you wish to attend

10th to 12th January

20th to 22nd March

15th to 17th May

We will hopefully organise some weekends with transport later in 2020.

Young Leader Opportunities

There are currently opportunities for Young Leaders in both our Cubs & Scout Troops. E-mail us at [email protected] if interested.

Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme

We can arrange to register Explorers for the DofE Award Scheme. Our experience says that this works best if there is a group of you at the same level which gives us critical mass for organising expeditions etc.

You can download the application form here.

Whilst we can organise Bronze level expedition training & assessments for groups of at least 4 of you, experience says it's extremely difficult to make the longer Silver/Gold expedition training and assessments work at unit level. We'd recommend linking up with your school DofE for these, or South London Scouts Top Awards

Please remember that you must agree what you're going to achieve for a section with your assessor, and upload & gain approval on eDofE before you commence an activity.

Please e-mail us at [email protected] with any questions.
